There are many different types of Aquarium filter that are available in the market and each individual of them are designed to be used in different aquarium tank setup. Choosing the right type of filter is essential for your aquarium tank.
External Canister Filters are a popular mean of filtration as it is silent during operation, low in power consumption and the canister body is able to hold more biological filter mediums for more efficient filtering.
OF® Hydra Filtron Canister Filter provides superior performance and enhanced reliability. It is the world’s first canister filter that features a 4-stage Purification.
An internal filter is another option for filtration and it provide the hobbyist to use it with ease and convenient. It can also be used in low water level tank, like turtle tanks so long as the filter is fully submerged in the water. Sometimes, an internal filter is used to provide supplemental filtration, like OF® Hydra internal filter. Hydra is the world first aquarium water depurator system that uses OF® Hydro-Pure Technology, to simplify the water purification process which most filters cannot achieve.
A sump tank is an extra water containment area usually set up underneath an aquarium to provide the main filtration for the aquarium. From the simple single chamber design to the more complex multi-chambered set ups, sumps are quite versatile, it is highly recommended to design it in a way that the water flows has high contact time in the sump tank to achieve maximum effect of the filter medias.
Hang-on filter is another common type of filtration system that hangs on the rear or by the side of an aquarium and is mostly used on small aquariums. It provide effective filtration and the outflow of the water are usually near the water surface to provide oxygenation.
OF® Ultra Slim Hang-on Filter is designed to provide maximum filtration through the filter and is packed with a surface skimmer that helps to skim away surface oil caused by bio-waste. OF® Ultra Slim Hang-on Filter is designed with chamber cartridge that houses more filter media neatly thus maximizing the water contact time to achieve the most efficient filtration.
Overhead filters works by placing it above the aquarium tank with a water pump or power head place either submerged in the water to pump the water to the filter box via a tubing or place beside the filter box and draw the water up from the aquarium via a plastic pipe.
AquaZonic® Black Knight Top Filter is one of such overhead filter. Design with a big filter compartment, you can easily use any filtration media and maintenance work can be carry out without turning off the water pump.
Under gravel filter use filter plates which lie below the gravel allowing water to flow freely under the plate. Water is drawn pass and through the gravel bed which acts as both mechanical and biological filter. The plate is usually attached to a power head using a pipe while some setup is attached to a canister filter to carry out a more effective filtering. Under gravel filtration is mostly used by shrimp’s keepers, as the gravel will act as a protection to keep the shrimps from being siphon into the filter.
