OXYGENATION

Low oxygen levels are rarely a problem if an aquarium is well maintained and not overstocked. However, if your fish are gasping at the surface of the water, it should set off a red flag prompting further investigation.

Oxygenation takes place on the water surface and the most effective way to increase the oxygen level in the water is through creating movement on the water surface. The greater the water is being agitated, the greater air exchange rate will take place.

Low oxygen level in aquarium tank is often caused by over populated tanks. Another option to increase oxygen level is to use air pumps which are available in the market. There are different air pumps to cater to different sizes of fish tank and water volume.
