FRESHWATER
Freshwater is typically characterized by having low salinity, unlike seawater and brackish water. It is usually found in ponds, lakes, rivers and streams, where freshwater fishes resides.
Freshwater fish differ greatly from salt water fish in several aspects, the obvious one being the ability to survive low salinity waters. Despite the vast number of freshwater fish species, only part of them is being domesticated through selective breeding and kept by hobbyists.
